This is bizarre to me, but I thought you might find this story interesting: So, you’re aware of my interest in cemeteries and my pursuit to view the Schooner Head Cemetery. I was originally steered away by the owner of the land, Dan Burt (poet/lawyer), so I journeyed down an alternative route via the family I thought had a deeded right of way, Baer. I originally tried to email John S. Baer at his company, Rainwise, but received a ‘return to sender’ type of response. I found a P.O. box address online, so I took the postal route and sent him a nice letter regarding my quest to view the cemetery. A few weeks had gone by, but I finally received a phone call from him on June 3rd. It was very good of him to call and we had a nice little chat. He said he didn’t think he had anything in writing and has a low opinion of Dan Burt but we did discuss a trespassing scheme for me to pursue and it was left at that…all in all, it was a pleasant conversation and I have tossed around the idea of a walk along the Schooner Head waterfront.
Way out of the ordinary for me, this morning I decided to look at the obituaries in Fenceviewer and who’s name should appear but John S. Baer. He died 3 days after I spoke to him. Gosh, somehow, I feel like I was the grim reaper showing him to his final resting place. Take a look at his obituary; he was an interesting man.
